While some worry that feeling better could hurt their craft, in my experience the opposite is true. Over the years musicians, programmers, visual artists, journalists, academics, writers for TV and theater, public servants and others have found a safe and welcoming home within my practice.
I see psychotherapy as a mode of empowerment. Clients transform their inner experience and bring renewed clarity and energy to their life’s work – for me, being part of this process is its own best reward.
Bio
Rebecca Carman grew up in the Berkshires in Massachusetts and received her AB from Harvard College. After attending Smith College School for Social Work she was a staff therapist at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy and the Jewish Board of Family & Children’s Services.
In addition, she served as Senior Editor at the National Center on Family Homelessness, Program Manager at Mercy Corps and clinical ethicist at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. At Elmhurst, she also co-founded the Green Team, led the hospital’s Schwartz Rounds, and chaired the Queens Sexual Assault Task Force.
For the past eight years, she has consulted with the American Museum of Natural History to provide support for the AMNH community. The bulk of her career has been devoted to public service and she is a member of DC 37 in New York City.
